Telcos and cable operators have been working hard in the third quarter of 2024 to expand their broadband services, offering new fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and higher-speed HFC-based options.

In this quarter, the top cable and wireline phone providers in the U.S. gained approximately 796,834 new net broadband subscribers, representing about 96% of the market. Lightwave+BTR is keeping a close eye on these providers, tracking their progress and growth.

We’re looking at two key metrics to understand the broadband landscape:
1. Broadband Additions and Losses: The number of subscribers each provider had at the end of the third quarter. Cable providers like Charter and Comcast saw a decrease in subscribers, losing 110,000 and 87,000 due to the Affordable Connectivity Program ending. On the other hand, traditional telcos like AT&T and Verizon gained 226,000 and 389,000 new subscribers.
2. Broadband Revenues: As providers add more subscribers, their broadband revenues increase. Comcast and Charter still lead in revenue with $6.54 billion and $5.98 billion, respectively. AT&T and Verizon reported $2.8 billion and $2.9 billion in revenue, driven by fiber-based broadband and Fixed Wireless Access sales.

Check out the chart below to see how these providers stack up based on their earnings reports. It’s exciting to see how the broadband landscape is evolving, and we’ll continue to keep you updated on the latest trends and developments.
