2025 Driftless Region Beef Conference: Feedlot Topics and More
The Coyle family has taken home the top prize in Fairfield’s Christmas Light Showdown, a festive and fun competition in the community. In other news, the 2025 Driftless Region Beef Conference is happening soon and it’s going to be a great opportunity for beef producers in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin to learn and connect.
This annual event, in its 13th year, will be held on January 23-24 at the Grand River Convention Center in Dubuque. The conference kicks off with keynote speakers Derrell Peel from Oklahoma State University and Troy Rowan from the University of Tennessee, addressing important topics related to the beef industry.
One of the highlights on Thursday will be Marta Kohmann from the University of Wisconsin sharing insights on “Managing Pastures for Long-Term Production.” Grazing management can be a challenge, and Kohmann will discuss sustainable pasture management principles and ongoing grazing studies.
Additionally, there will be a panel discussion with locker plant managers from the Driftless Area, offering valuable insights into marketing beef locally. On Friday morning, Bruce and Peyton River will talk about the “Challenges and Joys of Family Farm Transitions” during the breakfast session.
The conference will feature breakout sessions focusing on various aspects of beef production, including risk management in a high-priced market, market timing, and performance technologies. Experts like Erika Woolfolk and Denise Schwab will share their research findings and insights on optimizing performance and health in beef cattle.
Registration is open with an early bird rate of $120 per person until January 10, after which it goes up to $145. You can register on the conference website and find more details about the schedule, speakers, and accommodations. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from industry experts and connect with fellow beef producers in the region.
