Wendy’s Michigan Locations Facing Possible Closure

Wendy’s fans in Michigan may notice a few changes coming soon, as the fast-food chain has quietly removed a number of locations from its company website. While Wendy’s has not officially announced which specific locations will be closing, signs have started popping up at some sites directing customers to other nearby spots.

Currently, Wendy’s operates 226 locations throughout Michigan, with restaurants in cities like Detroit, Grand Rapids, Marquette, Traverse City, and Lansing. However, the chain has hinted that it plans to close around 140 lower-performing outlets nationwide by the end of the year.

During an earnings report in October, a Wendy’s spokesperson mentioned that the company conducted a strategic review of its global system and decided to shutter some underperforming locations. Two Michigan sites that have already permanently closed are the restaurants at 644 S. Main St. in Adrian and 1301 W. Chicago Blvd. in Tecumseh.

In addition to these closures, the following Wendy’s locations have also been removed from the website:

-11000 Belleville Road, Belleville
-9370 Lee Road, Brighton
-523 E Chicago St., Coldwater
-9805 Davis Hwy., Dimondale
-2620 S. State Road, Ionia
-2727 Eaton Rapids Road, Lansing
-3920 W. Saginaw Hwy., Lansing
-26245 Novi Road, Novi
-12793 N. U.S. 131, Schoolcraft
-2735 Washtenaw Ave., Ypsilanti

Interestingly, the Wendy’s located at DMC Harper University Hospital is currently marked as “closed today” on the website, even though it is still listed.

During the earnings call, Wendy’s executives mentioned that the closures are part of a larger strategy to replace outdated locations with more profitable ones. The company aims to shut down restaurants that fall below the system average revenue (approximately $1.1 million) and replace them with higher-earning sites with an average revenue of $2 million or more.

Wendy’s President and CEO Kirk Tanner highlighted the company’s recent growth, with about 500 new locations opening in the past two years. As of the end of the third financial quarter, Wendy’s had a total of 7,166 locations worldwide, with the majority in the United States.

While the exact impact on Michigan’s Wendy’s locations remains to be seen, customers should keep an eye out for any changes to their favorite spots in the coming months. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
