Global Oil and Gas Mergers and Acquisitions Update Q3 2024
In the latest Global Oil and Gas M&A Outlook, we take a deep dive into the current trends shaping the industry in Q3 2024. Let’s break it down together:
The U.S. saw 76 transactions worth a total of USD 21 billion, making up 34% of global deals and 28% of the total disclosed value worldwide. However, the standout moments came from non-U.S. activity, such as SK’s USD 26 billion portfolio rebalancing in South Korea and Saudi Aramco’s USD 11.6 billion acquisition of the Petro Rabigh refinery in Saudi Arabia.
LNG trade flows saw a 1.9% increase in volume, hitting 101.6 MMt. Despite this growth, supply challenges remain as U.S. companies are holding off on investment decisions until after they receive clearer regulatory guidance on LNG export permits post-U.S. elections.
In terms of M&A deals, Q3 2024 saw a decline in the number of transactions, but the disclosed value surged to USD 75 billion across 222 deals. This was a shift from Q2 2024, which recorded 240 deals worth USD 67 billion.
