Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Prison for Inhumane Conditions

A group of detainees, led by Jesse Leon Guerrero, has taken a stand against what they describe as inhumane conditions in prison by filing a class action lawsuit. They are pointing fingers at the Department of Corrections and Director Fred Bordallo, claiming that their cells are overcrowded and lack proper lighting, windows, and air conditioning. Some are even left to sleep on the floor.

These prisoners are seeking justice and hoping that a Superior Court judge will step in to declare that the Department of Corrections has violated the law and put an end to these unacceptable conditions. It’s no secret that the issue of overcrowding has been a long-standing problem that prison leaders have been aware of for quite some time.

In a recent development, Major Maryhelen Lizama of DEPCOR has reached out to the Attorney General with a request to release pretrial detainees facing misdemeanor charges, drug possession, and traffic violations. Additionally, there is a call to release and deport non-U.S. citizens back to their home countries.

The fight for humane treatment in prisons is an important one, and these detainees are bravely standing up for their rights. Stay tuned for updates as this story continues to unfold.
