Class Action Lawsuit Against Congressmen Huffman and Thompson

The community is abuzz with news of a significant lawsuit. It’s not every day that taxpayers take their elected officials to court, but that’s exactly what’s happening in Northern California. On December 19, a coalition of concerned citizens will gather at the U.S. District Court in San Francisco to announce a class action lawsuit against Congress Members Jared Huffman and Mike Thompson. Their goal? To hold these representatives accountable for allegedly misusing our tax dollars to fund genocide.

This legal action is unprecedented, bringing together individuals from ten counties who are determined to make their voices heard. The lawsuit is based on several laws, including the Foreign Assistance Act, the Arms Export Control Act, the U.S. War Crimes Act, the Leahy Law, the Genocide Convention Implementation Act, and various treaties. The attorneys behind this effort are hoping that between 500 and 1000 taxpayers will join the lawsuit to send a powerful message to Washington.

Among those involved in this lawsuit is Leslie Angeline, a constituent of Rep. Jared Huffman, who has been on a hunger strike for over a month in solidarity with the Free Youth Movement of Jordan. Leslie’s passionate plea speaks to the heart of the matter – why is taxpayer money being used to fund violence and destruction overseas when there are urgent needs right here at home? The lawsuit is a response to the inaction of elected officials who have turned a blind eye to the alleged misuse of funds.

This is more than just a legal battle; it’s a statement of values. Organizations like CODEPINK San Francisco, Taxpayers Against Genocide, Roots Action, and others are joining forces to demand accountability from our representatives. The hope is that this lawsuit will not only hold Huffman and Thompson accountable but also spark a larger conversation about how our tax dollars are being spent.
