Brian Robert Thompson, aged 50, from Maple Grove, MN, sadly passed away on December 4, 2024, due to a tragic incident in New York City. He was a cherished father, son, brother, husband, and friend to many, known for his quick wit and intelligence. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survived by his wife Paulette (Pauley), two sons Bryce and Dane, mother Pat Thompson, brother Mark Thompson (Kelly), grandmother Margaret Thompson, mother-in-law Paulette Reveiz, sisters-in-law Ana Lisa Haberman (Mike), Maria Reveiz, Elena Reveiz, Karime Westrum (Joel), and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Brian was preceded in death by his father Dennis Thompson, father-in-law Eduardo Reveiz, grandparents Bruce and Lila Hunter, and grandfather Milford Thompson.
Growing up in rural Iowa, Brian (known as BT to his friends) carried values instilled in him on the family farm into a career that led him to cities worldwide. From Class President to Homecoming King, Athlete to Valedictorian, Brian excelled in diverse pursuits. He brought his talents to the University of Iowa, graduating with special honors and the highest distinction while also embracing his love for the Hawkeyes.
Starting his professional journey in 1997 at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, as a CPA, Brian progressed to roles at UnitedHealth Group, eventually becoming CEO of UnitedHealthcare in 2021. Beyond his work, Brian was a dedicated community member, serving as Honorary Co-Chair of the 2026 Special Olympics USA games and supporting various charitable organizations.
However, Brian’s most cherished role was that of a father to his sons Bryce and Dane. Their shared love for sports, family time, and creating lasting memories brought immense joy to Brian’s life. Whether attending games or playing golf, Brian’s devotion to his family was unwavering.
Brian’s impactful leadership, collaborative style, and genuine care for others made him beloved by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, quick wit, and loyalty will be deeply missed. Private family services have been held, with memorial contributions suggested to a charity of choice in honor of Brian.
