Industry Shows 12% Increase in October According to Blair/PCO M&A Specialists Index
In October 2024, the total William Blair/PCO M&A Specialists Pest Index saw a year-over-year increase of 12 percent, which is higher than the 9 percent increase in September. This growth rate surpasses the long-term average of 10 percent.
William Blair Equity Researcher, Tim Mulrooney, pointed out that when considering the additional workday in October, the index’s performance was consistent with September. The index also rose by 4 percent sequentially from the previous month, showing strength against seasonal trends.
Dan Gordon, a financial columnist at Pest Management Professional and partner at PCO Bookkeepers & M&A Specialists, commented on the positive state of the industry. While previous revenue increases were attributed to inflation adjustments, it seems that the current growth reflects genuine improvements rather than just keeping up with rising prices.

– Commercial Pest Index: 15 percent year-over-year increase
– Termite Index: 11 percent year-over-year increase
– Bed Bug Index: 9 percent year-over-year increase
– Mosquito Index: 8 percent year-over-year increase
The William Blair/PCO Bookkeepers & M&A Specialists Pest Index monitors the performance of 146 privately held pest control companies across 38 states, with a combined annual revenue of $515 million in 2023. This index helps to track the monthly progress of various pest markets in the United States, excluding residential door-to-door companies.
