Cryo-Frozen Tissue Manufacturer Hit by Cyberattack

Artivion, a vascular implant manufacturer, recently experienced a cybersecurity incident that disrupted its operations. The incident involved the acquisition and encryption of files, although specific details were not provided by the company. It is suspected that the cyberattack may have involved ransomware.

The data breach was disclosed in a December 9 filing with the SEC, where Artivion mentioned that they became aware of the incident on November 21. The company produces implantable, cryo-frozen tissue used in heart surgeries, as well as medical devices. Due to the cyberattack, some of their order and shipping processes were interrupted.

At this time, it is unclear what information the hackers may have accessed, and there has been no claim of responsibility by any ransomware group. It is also uncertain whether Artivion paid a ransom or successfully prevented the breach. The company stated that they do not anticipate a financial impact from the incident, but there is a possibility of delays in shipping certain products as they recover.

Artivion, based in Georgia, reported third-quarter revenues of nearly $95.8 million, an increase from the previous year. Health Exec has contacted the company for further details and will update as more information becomes available.
