Equifax Data Breach Victims Eligible for Increased Compensation
Check your email inbox carefully, you might have some unexpected good news! If you were affected by the Equifax data breach back in 2017, you could be in for another payment. That’s right – Equifax is reaching out once again to help those customers who were impacted by the breach.
When the breach happened, it put a lot of sensitive information at risk – things like names, Social Security numbers, birthdays, driver’s license numbers, and even some credit card numbers. In response, Equifax initially offered $125 or 10 years of free credit monitoring to those affected. But some folks claimed they got less than they expected. Sounds frustrating, right? That’s why Equifax is now stepping up to the plate once more to support those who were impacted by the breach.
Recently, an email from the court-appointed settlement administrator, JND Legal Administration, shared some great news with affected customers. There’s extra cash in the Consumer Restitution Fund, and it’s going directly to eligible customers. While the email didn’t reveal the exact amounts, it did let folks know that they’ll be receiving these extra funds through electronic pre-paid cards. Keep an eye on your inbox around the week of Dec. 9 for instructions on how to redeem your card.
Now, let’s talk next steps. To claim these additional funds, you needed to file a claim for any out-of-pocket losses or time spent on or before the second deadline of Jan. 22, 2024. If you took care of that, good news – you’re in line for the payment! But even if you missed that claim deadline, there’s still some support available. Equifax is offering free identity restoration services for all individuals affected by the breach until at least Jan. 22, 2029.
The first round of payments from the initial settlement back in 2022 didn’t quite match what many customers had hoped for. In the end, only a portion of the $700 million settlement was allocated for customer restitution, leaving each person with a much smaller amount than anticipated. This data breach is no small matter – it’s one of the largest in U.S. history and has made an impact on nearly half of Americans.
So, keep an eye on your email inbox for any updates regarding these extra funds from Equifax. And remember, if you think you may be eligible, be sure to check your spam folder and reach out to JND Legal Administration at info@EquifaxBreachSettlement.com or by phone at 1-833-759-2982. Your financial security matters, and it’s good to see steps being taken to support those affected by this significant data breach.
