Special Weather Statement: Fire Danger in Virginia

Watch out, all my Virginia friends! The weather has a message for us this Sunday. We’re looking at dry skies and increased fire danger in Northern & Central Virginia. Humidity is set to drop to 25 to 35 percent, especially in the late morning and afternoon. Winds from the west to southwest are likely, blowing at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching 20 to 30 mph. With such dry conditions, the risk of wildfires is higher, so be cautious if you’re thinking of burning outdoors. Check in with your local authorities before you light a match!

Meanwhile, the foothills and piedmont of Southwest and South Central Virginia are also on alert for a similar scenario on Sunday. Relative humidity will hover around 30 to 35 percent in the afternoon, accompanied by west winds blowing at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching 20 to 25 mph. Just like in Northern & Central Virginia, dry conditions pose a serious risk for wildfire spread. So, play it safe if you’re planning any outdoor burning.

Remember, these are Special Weather Statements issued by trustworthy sources. Stay updated, stay informed, and stay safe, Virginia!
