This week in finance, we’re looking at the latest earnings data for the third quarter of 2024. Analysts are predicting a 9.0% year-over-year increase in earnings, but when you exclude the energy sector, that number jumps to 11.7%.
So far, 494 companies in the S&P 500 have shared their earnings for this quarter, and an impressive 76.1% of them have exceeded analyst expectations. This is higher than the long-term average of 66.9% and slightly below the prior four-quarter average of 79.1%.
Looking ahead, six S&P 500 companies are set to report their earnings during the week of December 9th, so keep an eye out for those updates.
