Apple avoids class action lawsuit regarding iCloud’s 5GB free tier
A recent attempt to pursue a class action lawsuit against Apple over iCloud storage has been officially dismissed.
After a multi-year legal battle, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has thrown out the case this week, stating that the plaintiffs did not provide sufficient evidence to support their claims.
The lawsuit alleged that Apple used deceptive tactics to push users into paying for iCloud storage, including misleading representations about the possibility of staying within the free 5 GB storage plan. However, the court ruled that Apple did not make any false promises or breach any contracts as alleged by the plaintiffs.
The plaintiffs were given multiple opportunities to amend their case but ultimately failed to address the key issues raised by the court. As a result, the case was dismissed for good.
While this lawsuit has been resolved, Apple is still facing a separate class action lawsuit over iCloud’s 5GB free tier and other restrictions related to iPhone backup. This ongoing case is being led by the Hagens Berman law firm, known for its involvement in various class action lawsuits against Apple.
