The deadline for Cash App users to file a claim for reimbursement for the 2021 data and security breach has passed, but some users still have questions about the process. Users had until Nov. 18, 2024, to file a claim for the $15 million in damages from the recent settlement.

In a class-action lawsuit against Cash App Investing and Block Inc. following a December 2021 data breach, plaintiffs alleged that the companies were negligent in securing and safeguarding consumer information, affecting 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers.

If you’re wondering when the Cash App security breach occurred, it happened in December 2021, leading to the unauthorized release of personally identifiable information for 8.2 million customers. Additionally, a former employee accessed users’ personal information during their employment without their knowledge, according to the lawsuit.

To determine if you were scammed on Cash App, check for unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers from your account between Aug. 23, 2018, and Aug. 20, 2024. Eligible users may submit a claim for up to $2,500.
