Class-action lawsuit shines light on past abuse torment in Calgary
Imagine being haunted by your past, especially one that reaches back over four decades. That’s the reality for Bobbie Bees, the plaintiff at the heart of a class-action lawsuit against the federal government for acts of sexual abuse by a Canadian Armed Forces chaplain in 1980. Father Angus McRae, a child-molesting pedophile, left a trail of broken children during his time at Canadian Forces Base Namao. Bobbie Bees, while not directly abused by McRae, was still considered one of his victims, according to a lawsuit filed in Calgary that has been certified as a class-action case. This means that any victim can come forward and join in the lawsuit. Justice Richard Neufeld approved the class-action process, noting that Bees was allegedly abused by one of McRae’s altar boys at a young age. Bees has been advocating for justice for himself and other children who suffered abuse either from McRae or with his blessing. It’s a long and painful journey, but Bees is determined to seek justice for himself and others who have had similar experiences.
