Cash App Class Action Claims Settlement: Information for Late Filers
If you missed the recent deadline to file a claim for reimbursement after the Cash App data breach in 2021, you’re not alone. Many users still have questions about the process, so let’s break it down.
The deadline to file a claim was November 18, 2024, for the $15 million settlement that Cash App Investing and Block Inc. were ordered to pay out. The class-action lawsuit alleged that these companies did not adequately protect consumer information, resulting in a data breach affecting 8.2 million Cash App Investing customers.
This breach, which occurred in December 2021, led to the unauthorized release of personal information. It was also discovered that a former employee accessed user data without authorization during their time at the company.
If you’re unsure whether you were affected by the breach, check your Cash App account for any unauthorized or fraudulent transactions between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024. Eligible users can submit a claim for up to $2,500 in reimbursement.
To qualify for a claim, you must have had a Cash App account before August 23, 2018, and not have already been reimbursed by Block Inc., Cash App Investing, or another party. The deadline to submit a claim was November 18, 2024, at cashappsecuritysettlement.com/submit-claim.
If you missed the deadline, you can contact the law firm representing plaintiffs at Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman. They can advise you on next steps and whether there are any alternatives available to you.
Users can file claims for out-of-pocket losses, lost time, and transaction losses related to the breach. If you believe you’re eligible for reimbursement, make sure to gather all necessary documentation and submit your claim accordingly.
