SEC Announces Updated EDGAR Filer Management Platform
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to roll out an updated version of the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) Filer Management platform, called EDGAR Next, on March 24, 2025. This new platform aims to enhance security, streamline account management, and modernize connections to EDGAR. By September 15, 2025, all filers will need to be enrolled in the new platform to submit their filings.
To enroll in the new platform, individuals authorized to manage filers’ accounts or make filings will need to obtain Login.gov credentials. This secure sign-in service provided by the US General Services Administration ensures a safe and easy enrollment process. Alongside this, each filer will be required to designate EDGAR Next account administrators to manage filing authority, generate confirmation codes, confirm account information annually, and create user groups.
Starting March 24, 2025, any individual or entity without EDGAR codes will need to obtain them through the updated Form ID application process. This modernized form will simplify the application while still being individually reviewed by SEC staff. By completing the Form ID, filers can authorize account administrators, with additional requirements for notarized documents in some cases.
Filers will also have the option to use Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to automate enrollment and filing processes, streamlining the submission of filings. APIs allow for machine-to-machine communication with EDGAR and enable filers to submit multiple filings efficiently. Technical administrators authorized by filers will manage API connections and ensure smooth operation.
In conclusion, the updated EDGAR Next platform promises enhanced security, improved account management, and efficient filing processes for all users. Filers should be prepared to make the transition by enrolling in the new system by the stated deadline.
