FCCPC investigates possible violations by GT Bank, MTN, Air Peace
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is taking significant steps to address consumer concerns in the banking, telecommunications, and aviation sectors. Starting on December 3rd, 4th, and 5th, the FCCPC will be looking into complaints regarding poor service, exploitation, and potential violations of consumer rights.
Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) will be in the spotlight for network failures that have affected customer access to funds and banking services. Meanwhile, MTN Nigeria will have to answer questions about data service issues and customer care problems.
Air Peace Limited is facing allegations of unfair ticket pricing practices, including sudden price increases for advance bookings on some domestic routes.
These inquiries fall under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018, which gives the FCCPC the authority to investigate and address practices that harm consumer rights, disrupt markets, or create unfair competition.
The engagement with these companies is an opportunity to address consumer issues, clarify business practices, and ensure compliance with regulations. The companies will need to provide information and responses as part of this process.
The FCCPC’s actions demonstrate a commitment to protecting consumer rights, promoting fair competition, and ensuring accountability across all sectors. It’s a positive step towards creating a more transparent and consumer-friendly marketplace.
