The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is taking action to address consumer complaints in the banking, telecommunications, and aviation industries. Starting on December 3rd, 4th, and 5th, the FCCPC will investigate reports of poor service delivery, exploitative practices, and potential violations of consumer rights.

Specifically, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) will be questioned about network failures affecting customer access to funds and banking applications, while MTN Nigeria is under scrutiny for undelivered data services, unexplained data depletion, and inadequate customer support. Air Peace Limited is also facing allegations of price gouging for advance booking on certain domestic routes.

These inquiries are authorized under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act of 2018, giving the FCCPC the power to investigate practices that harm consumer rights or create unfair competition. By engaging with these companies, the FCCPC aims to address consumer concerns, clarify business practices, and ensure compliance with regulations.

The companies involved are required to provide information and responses to the Commission to help resolve any issues promptly. This demonstrates the FCCPC’s dedication to protecting consumer rights, promoting fair business practices, and enforcing accountability across all sectors.
