It’s time to crack down on the meat market monopoly – Investigate Midwest

When it comes to the beef market, Big Beef has a pretty tight grip—80% is under the control of just four companies: National Beef Packing Company, Cargill, JBS, and Tyson. These major players have been caught up in lawsuits for manipulating prices and limiting supply, which ends up hurting consumers. It’s not a new story though; just two years ago, JBS had to pay $52.5 million for their part in a class action lawsuit. Now, the big names are facing heat from none other than McDonald’s, who accuses them of violating antitrust laws. McDonald’s is ready to take this fight to court and wants to expose all the dirty details.

It’s clear that the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission need to step in to review this situation. Maybe it’s time to break up the Big Beef monopoly and prevent any future mergers that could make things even less competitive. For too long, these companies have been getting away with behavior that’s just not right. It’s about time that real action is taken to hold them accountable. The question is, will the government finally make a move? We’ll have to wait and see.
