Advocate Letter 2023: Writing to Support and Advocate

0

Hi Jim,

I believe Robert Whitaker has truly been a game-changer for us. Prior to his revelations, it seemed like those following the medical model were just wandering around without a clear direction. But when Whitaker shed light on the involvement of drug companies in the decline of patients, everything seemed to make sense. I was hopeful that this was his mission all along.

I got really excited when Whitaker mentioned the possibility of a class action lawsuit against the drug companies and the APA. However, it’s disappointing that there hasn’t been any progress on that front yet. I was hoping you might have some information about this since Kermit Cole at MIA hasn’t heard anything either.

Whitaker’s insights have far-reaching implications that need to be addressed in order to fully understand the challenges faced by mental health patients. While I’m frustrated by the lack of legal action, I try to stay optimistic that investigators are delving into the intricacies and details needed to build a strong case. The entire scandal needs to be exposed for any meaningful change to happen.

My biggest fear is that legal advocates may be overlooking Whitaker’s findings due to other priorities. Do you have any updates that could give me hope that this isn’t the case?

I didn’t intend for this letter to be so rhetorical, but I wanted to express my concerns. By the way, I’m currently in Baltimore.
